6th Grade Chorus:
-Like the other choral ensembles at Skyline, the Sixth Grade Chorus is an elective ensemble. Students who choose to join have many performance opportunities including school concerts, district concerts and possible solo opportunities. Singers learn how to read musical notation, the musical style periods and major composers, critical listening skills with discussion techniques, proper vocal technique, multicultural and world music, part singing and ear training. An audition is not required, but a positive attitude is. Students may enroll in the chorus before the school year begins, or during the first week of school. This class meets every day for the entire year.
6th Grade General Vocal Music:
-For those students who elect not to join either sixth grade band or chorus, there are two general music classes for you to take here at Skyline. General Vocal Music (GVM) is one of these. In this class students learn the basics of: reading musical notation, conducting an ensemble, the musical style periods and western music history, multicultural and world music, proper vocal warm-ups and singing technique, recording techniques, musical form and critical listening skills. This class meets every day for one marking period.
7th Grade Chorus:
-In this ensemble the students continue learning about music and singing. Notation reading, critical listening and ear training skills are reinforced. Singer’s expanding ranges are explored through increasingly more difficult literature. Starting in seventh grade singers are eligible to audition for DMEA’s All State Junior Choir. Students are also eligible to audition for the select ensemble trips. Auditions are not required for this ensemble. This class meets in two sections every day for the entire year.
8th Grade Chorus:
-Students in the eighth grade ensemble are constantly challenged to improve their tone and musical skills. Ear training, critical listening and other musical skills are continuously reinforced. As in seventh grade, students are eligible to audition for DMEA’s All State Junior Choir and select ensemble trips. Auditions are not required for this ensemble. This class meets in two sections every day for the entire year.
Skyline Chorale:
-Singers in the Chorale are members of the 7th and 8th grade choirs. This is the select touring ensemble for the school and requires a solo audition and attendance at rehearsals outside of the normal school day. |
